 Intertwined

IMG_9515.jpg

The forms in Intertwined embody the seamless integration of nature and the human spirit, creating an object that is both familiar and organic. The composition—two pieces of bent wood and a single piece of stone—symbolizes the relationship between natural elements and human intervention. Each material carries its own significance: the wood, shaped by human hands, retains the memory of the tree it once was, while the stone, untouched and raw, holds the permanence of nature.

When assembled, these elements form a piece that invites human interaction. Sitting on Intertwined is not merely an act of rest but an experience of connection—between the sitter, the material, and the environment. The balance of the curved wood and the grounding presence of the stone creates a harmony that extends beyond the physical form. It becomes an object of mindfulness, allowing the body to relax while fostering an awareness of nature’s presence.

The rock, in particular, carries a deeply personal aspect. It can be chosen from a place of significance—perhaps a riverbank, a mountain trail, or a childhood garden—imbued with memories that transport the sitter back to that moment. This element transforms Intertwined into more than just a functional object; it becomes a vessel for reminiscence and emotional connection to the natural world.

Sohrab Sepehri’s verse, “Wherever I am, let me be, the sky is mine,” resonates with this philosophy. It speaks to the boundless nature of the human spirit and its ability to find peace and belonging, regardless of place. Similarly, Intertwineddoes not merely exist as an object in space; it evokes a sense of place within the self, where nature and memory merge to create an ever-present sanctuary.
