Reflected Gate

Reflected Gate
The form of this threshold is inspired by the exterior pattern of OCAD University’s sharp centre and the form of AGO’s staircase. Each squares from the OCADU’s exterior pattern in this gateway turns to an individual plate which is installed on top of a pillar then raised into different heights to make the journey through this path playful and enjoyable. The colour plates are suggesting seating areas from inside or outside of the gateway because of their height. The plates are made of mirror panels to complete the concept of reflection. The ceiling is mimicking the ground’s panels in opposite way. The first part of the gateway is placed on the shallow pool which is flush to the ground. From the north sidewalk to the south sidewalk the thresholds plates are situated to the ground and create a flat path to the other side of the street and start to become elevated at the end of the gateway. Also there is an accessible pathway in the middle of the space. These aspects of the threshold invite people to pass through and enter to the grange park or use the space to exit the area.
